Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

Rock climbing has emerged as a highly exuberant addictive activity that acts as a tonic for adrenaline junkies and nature trekkers. It is a sport that requires both physical and mental strength, a sport of strategies and skills, and a sport that builds a bond among the team of climbers for teamwork and camaraderie.

Rock climbing has received good standing and a lot of interests from many sports enthusiasts. Everybody is plunging into the idea of rock climbing. The danger and hazards that are involved in the game attract even more daredevils and people who long for thrilling experience.

Thanks to media exposure and popularity more and more people are now taking to this very exiting but life threatening sport. But experts say that the best rock climbing equipment one can wear and bring along in his climb is his knowledge and skills that he gains.

To help the rock climber on his way up, he needs a good rock climbing equipment. A rock climbing equipment is what the climber may need in order to reach the top of the rocky steep. In some cases, expert climbers don’t even require rock-climbing equipment. Free rock climbing is another form of rock climbing that does not require any rock climbing equipments and this is the technique in which they employ their bare hands and foot.

Essentially, rock climbing equipment is useful not only to help the rock climber make a safe climb, but it also gives him a pleasurable climbing experience without the hassles and worries of falling off from the face of the rock.

The rock climber can ascend carefully up the rock while enjoying the magnificent view of the Earth below that is encrusted by wonderful rock formations. Although rock-climbing equipment can be relatively expensive to acquire there are few basic tools and gears the climber will need to have a pack of rock climbing equipment before he will take on that long and adventure-packed ascent.

Helmet should be given the prime importance. It helps the climber protect himself from fatal hits and scratches caused by the sharp and jagged edges of the rocky steeps. Moreover, it rock climbing equipment can protect your head from serious injury. When he is up there, he will need to aim his eyes on every angle, so he might not notice a sharp rock ahead of him. The helmet will also protect him from falling pebbles.

Harness is also essential rock climbing equipment. Most harnesses can be purchased in reputed sports shops or at standard rock climbing equipment dealers. So it is advised to hunt for a certified store.

Rock climbing shoes are not common shoes, but they are specially built for climbing. A good pair of shoes will give the climber comfort while ensuring their safety. Ropes and safety carbineer are also great addition to rock climbing equipment.

The person can be a beginner or an experienced climber he will need to invest his money and knowledge in buying the proper equipments for rock climbing because it forms major and vital part of his climb. So getting the right and proper equipments will solve half of the problem

LJ Adama asked:

The first time I saw a picture of someone kite boarding they were what looked to be 30 feet in the air upside down, I thought it looked so sweet, I started obsessively watching the videos and looking for a lesson. The first time I flew a 9M kite I dropped it down into the power zone, summer salted across the beach, ate a bunch of sand and let the control bar go launching the kite into the water and making my instructor go swimming after it. This could have easily been the end of my kite life, I was scared for sure. The next time I flew the kite I would panic at even the smallest tug and let the kite drop. I stopped kiting for several weeks, but sick of seeing my friends advance in the sport and getting to go in the water and up on the board finally pushed me to try and overcome my fear. I definitely took some steps to get back out there though, here are my tips that helped me get back out there and try, try again.First thing I started to do before I even went back to the kite beach was to:

List Reasons On Why You Want To Kite In The First Place

-Why do you really want to do this sport, its not just to show off is it? (For me I always liked the idea of wind power and the idea of being on the water mixed with acrobatic moves seemed peaceful)

Identify The Source Of Your Fear

-Learning what your exact fear is can help you overcome it, by knowing what your afraid of exactly can help tremendously. (I was scared that even the smallest gust of wind was going to yank me 100 feet in the air)

Research and Watch

-Read, look at videos on kite surfing and sit out on the beach and watch others kiters. Learn the whole process before jumping in and flying the kite. What are all the different kites available and what are the differences. Watch and practice setting up your kite, most Kitemares happen with just a slight error in gear set up. Learn by watching how experience kiters handle their kites, look for the small details how far they dip it into the power zone look at the cause and effect of their movements, what do they do when they are on the water, where is the kite in relation to the wind directions are all questions to ask yourself.

Body Drag, Body Drag, Body Drag

- If you like me and got dragged across the beach your first time out you may have quit before even getting to this step. There is no shame in body dragging even after you have had your initial lesson with a certified kite instructor, you don’t need to go out by yourself and try and get on your board right away. Body dragging in the water is much different then body dragging on the sand. You are meant to be pulled by the kite eventually you are going want to feel the power of the kite and the best way to get over the fear of being yanked by the kite is to get in the water (in a safe uncrowded area) and body drag around with the kite.

Go Out On Light Wind Days

-Make sure you go out on light wind days, you can still have fun kiting in 8-10 knots of wind. If they wind is constant and not gusty are good learning conditions. You won’t have to worry about the kite getting too powered up, but you will still get enough force to get pulled.

Focus and Visualize

-Whenever you can imagine yourself having successful kiting experiences, go through the whole process in your head. Setting up the kite, putting you gear on, hooking into the kite, launching the kite, flying the kiting, getting pulled by the kite and enjoying the whole process. This will help you place fear emotions with positive reinforcement emotions.

With time and experience you will overcome your kiting fears. With proper lessons, knowledge and gear you will be able to have fun kiting. You will get scrapes and bruises along the way, it is part of the sport, but keep in mind what brought you to the game in the first place and decide for yourself if it is worth it. The more time spent learning the basics the better your kiting experience will get, you have to build a solid base before moving onto new tricks. Before you know it though your thoughts of fear will have turned to thoughts to getting bigger air and learning new tricks.

Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

Rock climbing belay is one of the most commonly used words in rock climbing. The perfect definition for the word Belay is to protect or to provide safety. The most common use in case of rock climbing is to provide safety for a climber by means of a rope, belay device and harness.

Taking in the rope through the belay device as you climb makes sure you have adequate friction. During a fall, belayer increases the friction to stop the fall by holding the rope and locking it to the side. This is rock climbing belay.

Other importance of the word rock climbing belay is common in related techniques used in mountaineering. The most ordinary of those is self-belay.

Another type of rock climbing belay is passive protection. A category of climbing gears that climbers place in the rock to anchor themselves to the rock. Passive protection generally has no moving parts and does not scar the rock when it is placed in. Pebbles and a little larger stone were first used for this principle.

They were gathered at the bottom of the cliff and wrapped with cord as they were slotted into the cracks in the rocks. Machine nuts played an important role in the evolution of climbing.

Nuts used to secure bolts are machine nuts. These are widely used in construction of bridges and in the auto industry apart from a host of other applications. One advantage of these nuts is that the hole in their center made it convenient to sling the cord through them.

One disadvantage was that even though they were by far a better alternative to the rock, they tended to get stuck on the rocks frequently. Modern passive protection was developed in the middle of 1960′s. They are called the Nuts and Hexagonals and they work on the very same principle as their predecessors. They are designed to be light in weight, compact and easily removable from the cracks of the rock.

Top roping is a form of rock climbing where safety for the climber is provided through a rope strung from the top of the cliff.

As the climber goes up the cliff, his partner starts to pull the other end of the rope by using a friction-device. This way of providing security for the climber is called belaying.

Spring Loaded Camming Devices are the most modern type of rock climbing belay available. Entirely Different from the Passive Protection, and camming devices these actively expand to fit into the rock they are placed in. They come in many different sizes and are color coded for easy recognition.

You need cracks that are parallel in order to fix and use the camming devices. These devices are very useful if placed in a strategic position as they can hold quite a lot of weight. “Friends” was the name of the camming devices that were first introduced on a commercial basis. This introduction created quite an impact in the field of rock climbing. Climbers were able to clear and climb cracks that were otherwise difficult to climb due to lack of support for placing protections.

Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

Indianapolis is the well-known capital of the U.S., which is the state of Indiana, and the county seat of Marion County, Indiana. The 2000 Census report tells that the city’s population is around 781,870. It is Indiana’s most crowded city and is the 13th largest city in the U.S., the 3rd largest city in the Midwest, and the second most densely inhabited Capital in the U.S at the back of Phoenix, Arizona.

Indianapolis is also known as Rust Belt city, due in part to an aggressive downtown renewal campaign. The 1960s saw a shift in the economic base of the city that is also one of the reasons for this change. A large part of this diversification involves the hosting of the events, especially some sporting events.

Indianapolis is known as The Amateur Sports Capital of the World, and The Racing Capital of the World, have both been applied to Indianapolis. The credit of hosting the , Pan American Games in the year 1987 goes to Indianapolis. Between 2000 and 2007, Indianapolis has successfully hosted the United States Grand Prix, the All State 400 at the Brickyard and also the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

The attendance at both the Indianapolis 500 and the Allstate 400 makes them the largest 2 single day sporting events in the world. 250,000 fans are present at this event. The number of monuments within the city limits is the more in number in Indianapolis that comes second to Washington D.C.

USS Indianapolis is one of the two US Navy vessels that have been named after Indianapolis. This vessel suffered the worst single at-sea loss of life in the history of the United States Navy.

Indianapolis rock climbing is a thrilling and amazing experience as the rocks and the climatic conditions prevailing here are ideal for rock climbing that will help you attain endurance, strength, and emotional stability, along with superb balance and agility. All these qualities are required to survive with tough, hazardous physical challenges in Indianapolis.

Indianapolis rock climbing experience in Indiana polis is packed with action and advanced rock climbers mainly prefer it. Some easy climb spots are also available in Indianapolis thus even amateur rock climbers can give it a go.

The climbing routes present in Indianapolis rock climbing are highly unpredictable. If the route being hiked is a multi-pitch route the leader sets up a secure anchor system at the top of the pitch, also called a belay, from where he can belay as his partner climbs.

As the second climber climbs, he or she removes the gear from the rock. The second climber removes all the bolts, chains, draws along with other rock climbing equipment when it comes to the matter of following traditional climbing techniques. Climbers are at the top of the pitch with all their equipments.

Note that the second person is protected from above on his Indianapolis rock climbing, but the leader is not, so being the leader is more challenging and dangerous job. When the climbers reach the top at the end of their climb, they must finally rappel or otherwise move down the climb in order to return to their starting point. Lead climber does not always fasten the second-climber from the top.

Peter Airdee asked:

When it comes to Power Kites you can dismiss all notions of kite flying as a gentle, relaxing activity. There’s nothing passive about this thrilling sport as high speed winds charge participants across the ground, attached to buggies, landboards or nothing at all. Taking advantage of strong winds and the unique design of these mammoth kites, flyers experience a unique rush as the wind and kite become one.

So, you think you’re ready to join in the fun? To get started, power kites which are also known as ‘foils’ are the ideal choice as these two-lined models are smaller than traction kites which come attached to buggies or landboards. Flyers can happily glide along the ground or soar into the air using these soft yet durable models without any extra equipment. Older children supervised by adults can also experience the rush of Power Kites, which when used responsibly can provide hours of outdoor entertainment. The main thing to remember is to fly safely by choosing good locations such as spacious beaches or fields for maximum manoeuvring and a soft landing!

For even greater pulling power and control, Traction Kites are the best models on the market. These invigorating kites generate speed quickly with 4 flying lines, 2 power lines and 2 brake lines. Flyers can easily adjust the position and power of these air born giants as they race across the land on buggies or landboards. Without compromising on safety, it’s advised to zoom around with safety helmets and pads in order to enjoy your power kite experience to the max.

If flying a Traction Kite sounds like the sport for you then you’ll need to decide whether to choose a buggy or a landboard. Buggies are typically made from stainless steel and are designed to withstand all types of terrain. Equipped with a comfortable seat for maximum movement and control, Traction Kite buggies should easily fit into most car boots, making it a very versatile sport. Landboards like skateboards demand a little more effort to control from the upright rider, however once you’ve got the knack of these lightweight vehicles you’ll be free-styling across the beach and ripping it up on dirt tracks like the best of them.

As always safety is mandatory when it comes to Traction Kites. Before using your landboard or buggy make sure you’re comfortable with a Power or Traction Kite as the incredible high speeds and pulling power of the wind can be dangerous if not harnessed correctly.

The joy of Power Kiting is very addictive and once you’ve gained some experience with the basic flying manoeuvres you’ll be able to hone your new skills and have the time of your life. Whether you’re competing in a fast paced buggy board race or free-styling alone with the wind, it’s only a matter of time before friends and family will want to take part too!

Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

Climbing is of different types and varieties. Rock climbing history is an offshoot of Mountaineering, since most of the mountaineers always have this particular kind of drive to try more challenging and thrilling climbs and terrains. It is obvious that Rock Climbing involves climbing on steep rocks and cliffs.

According to rock climbing history, rock climbing remained a part of mountaineering. It has remained as a form of training in order to improve their climbing skills and to learn several climbing techniques.

Rock climbing history states that this activity became popular in the U.S as an essential factor in mountain climbing during 1920s. Rock Climbing discovered its identity and people started to recognize rock climbing as an individual sport in 1950s.

More and more people went crazy for this freaky sport rock climbing. This gave the way for the development of grading system. Grading system gave an indication of how easy or difficult the climb is. The climber can choose the grade he wants to climb depending on his level of skill and expertise.

Grading system is different in different countries. Each country has developed its own grading system in order to assess the climber’s level of expertise. What came with this event was the development of different Climbing Styles that are based on the type of the terrain, with or without the use of ropes and several other gear, indoor or outdoor, etc.

Rock climbing history gradually came towards a trend that made shorter but more difficult and challenging climbs. Knowing that Rock Climbing as an outdoor sport could be really dangerous as it can cause fatal accidents. Safety and protection were greatly given importance. Techniques and advanced equipments came about as a natural development leading from harder and more challenging climbing routes.

As we have seen earlier rock climbing was yet a part of mountaineering. Many developments have happened and the invention of modern techniques over the years until it became a sport in its own right, and it continues to gain popularity and craze at present.

People of all ages are enjoying this addictive and exhilarating sport. The various techniques and equipments that have come about for an improved experience aid this passion. This enables the climbers to better enjoy what Rock Climbing has to offer.

Although the practice of rock climbing according to rock climbing history was an important part of Victorian mountaineering in the Alps, it is generally considered that the sport of rock climbing began in the last quarter of the 19th century in at least 3 areas Elbsandsteingebirge, in Saxony near Dresden, the Lake District of England, and the Dolomites in Italy.

Rock climbing evolved slowly from an alpine necessity to an athletic sport in its own right, making it imprudent to cite an Ancestor of the latter in each of these three locales. Thus, Rock climbing has become a popular sport among the adventure lovers whose daring actions literally secretes adrenaline for the spectators.
